So, again, FreshDirect sent me a promo code for free crab stuffed salmon (normally $14.99 for 2 fillets), and I jumped on it. I order from them nearly every week (perhaps a more fitting name would have been FreshDirect Foodie?)- there is a distinct lack of grocery stores in my neighborhood, the Financial District- so it wasn’t like I purposely created an order for the sole purpose of getting free food. That would be silly. Wouldn’t it? And we all know I am not silly. No.
Anyhow, I was excited to try this because it sounded delicious, but when I opened the package, I was a bit grossed out at the super fishy smell emanating from the container. Also, directions hadn’t been printed on the packaging, so I had to go to their website and look them up before switching on my oven and sprinkling the fillets with salt and fresh ground black pepper. Wait, what’s this? My oven decided to stop working, so I was forced to then pop them into my toaster oven (which heats up fine, in fact hotter than my oven sometimes I think because it’s such a small space to heat up).
This is the finished result. I realize it doesn’t look appetizing, and the fish looks rawish on top, but when I forked into it, it was cooked. And completely bland and terrible. The crab stuffing was supremely fishy and not so appetizing nor tasty, and when eating together, it was just passable as sustenance. I sauteed some watercress to go with this and ate a semblance of a healthy meal, except after I finished eating a fillet, the rest of the night, my stomach was hurting.
I don’t know what it is, but I have yet to experience a good heat&eat from FreshDirect. Maybe next time I should opt out of their seafood… hopefully they send me something different this week.
(Actually they sent me chocolate souffles, but my oven was broken plus I’ve ordered them before, so I can’t really complain about that- I know I like them already. But I will take pictures when I do make these, since they’ve changed the name and raised the price since I bought them.)
Yvo says: No thanks again. Keep trying, FD- maybe you’ll get it right someday. It’s not an easy thing, anyway, to package heat&eat/ready to cook seafood, so E for Effort.

When are you going to learn Yvo..LOL…yuck – whenever I need to curb my appetite I will simply pull up your FD pics – that’ll do it all right!
Glad the souffle is good tho’ – do they sell only prepared foods or do they sell groceries too? – I love having our groceries delivered here – prices are the same and for an additional $5 delivery charge I will gladly pay someone to shop for groceries for me – and deliver and put them away – woohoo!

I’ve decided that most frozen food is worthless.
