Chicken Fingers & Fries

This is an amazingly easy recipe, and a perfect go-to for me because my boyfriend is super picky, but loves chicken cutlets in its many incarnations.  **I used mostly chicken tenderloins, but instead of paying a fortune for packages of just these, whenever I buy packages of chicken breasts, I cut these off myself and reserve them for just such a dish.  I put them in a baggie and freeze them until I’m ready to use them.  They usually go for $3+/lb for just these, so this is a smart way to get what you want without paying that much. Beef Chow Mein

This is an easy enough meal, provided you have a few items on hand.  Thankfully, almost any veggie combination that pleases will do nicely… and I always have my faves on hand.  I used dried egg noodles, which I reconstituted in a bit of warm water for about 30-45 minutes.  Be careful not to oversoak them, as they will become soggy and will not fry up as crisp as one might like.  Drain of all excess water before pan frying in a little bit of oil, until crispy and soft in various places.  Remove and plate. I took about a [...]

138 W. Houston Street (between Sullivan and MacDougal Streets)(212) 353-2338websiteTONY reviewmenupages After having this place recommended to me by one of the guys at Xanga, I put it on my list of to-try.  Since I’m very pick about Thai food, I didn’t think I’d get around to it, but recently I’ve been craving Thai like no other (especially after a positive experience at Pad Thai earlier this year).  So, I grabbed my boyfriend, a friend and her boyfriend, and off we went this past Friday… From the outside, right off you notice how super trendy the place looks.  It’s almost [...]

Lemon Chicken Stir-Fry

I’ve been really into making stir fries lately, for a few reasons: I’ve been keeping my fridge stocked with veggies, which constantly need to be eaten they’re quick and easy once you get into a good groove for chopping (I’ve been much better about chopping than I normally am- I’ve never been a fan of that much prep-work!), they’re healthy and there’s an endless number of variations for me to play with!  My boyfriend, a picky eater, also seems fond of them, so off we go.  This one in particular is light and healthy because of its basis in lemon [...]

Landmarc, revisited

179 W. Broadway, between Leonard & Worth Streets (212) 343-3883 Reservations recommended (gets crowded even on weeknights) Menu First visit reviewed here (I just re-read it… interesting because I didn’t remember some of those issues!) I’d previously rated Landmarc as “I would go back” but, nearly a year later and I still had not returned, not for want of trying. Marc Murphy has a great little place here, and I was excited to go back and try some more of his creations. When I arrived shortly after 6, my friend was waiting for me. The place looked crowded from outside, [...]
