889 Ninth AvenueNew York, NY 10019(212) 315-0088website **point of interest: if you click on the website, the table directly in the front of the picture is where we sat (bottom, to the left) We started off with SexXxy Mushrooms, because they sound… sexxxy!  Unfortunately, as you can see from the picture, they were not that sexy.  And there wasn’t much to it, despite being $8.95!  I was slow to the draw (the way the table was set up was awkward for me to reach over to get some) and managed to eat only one mushroom because there were so few [...]

Five Points

original review here We happened to be in the area so my snuggly and I dropped in to Five Points for brunch yesterday.  I was disappointed when the hostess told us it’d be at least a 30 minute wait, but pleased that she asked for our cell phone number so when our table was ready, they could call us.  We wandered off to shop a little at Crate & Barrel a few blocks away, but as soon as we got into the shopping, they called and our table was ready.  French toast // eggs rancheros // side of bacon with sour cherries I [...]

Adrienne’s

54 Stone StreetFinancial District After hearing good things about Adrienne’s from various sources (including this one), I attempted with coworkers to try it last week.  Alas, it was not to be; we entered at 1:10 and the place was packed.  The harried “hostess” informed us it was 45 minutes to get a table, but worse was when I tried to place an order to go- she said the wait would be anywhere from 30-45 minutes for the pie!  Basically, if we’d waited for a table, the wait for a pizza would have been even longer.  I was convinced at this [...]

Yakiniku Juju

Filed under BBQ, Cheap Eats, Japanese, Manhattan, Restaurants

28th Street b/w 3rd and Lexington In Japanese, Yakiniku means, literally, “fried meat”.  This is basically what you do here- fry your own meat.  Personally, I am more familiar with this stye of dining under the label “Korean BBQ”.  I adore Korean BBQ and have a favorite place (that perhaps one day, not so soon, I will return and tear down the house- I you Picnic Garden!!!) but the thing I dislike about Korean BBQ [in general, not specifically about Picnic Garden] is the price and the fact that when you’re done cooking meat on a wood grill, you reek of [...]
