8908 Queens BoulevardElmhurst, NY 11373(718) 426-8080 I’ve been going to Mi Tio’s (literally translated, “My Uncle’s”) since before my father died and before they expanded to take over the pizzeria that used to be next door. The place holds a lot of fond memories and some not so fond… but the food has remained the same over the years. (I figure the first time I went there was over 7 years ago, since I remember going with my dad while he was still healthy enough to be able to eat red meat.) The food here is Argentinian style.. I wish [...]

Now, this is a recipe I fully expect everyone to have their own variation of, so please feel free to leave comments with what you put in it! I want to see what else is out there, though I adore this version I am willing to eventually try out other mixtures as well! **This is not a quick’n’easy recipe as I normally post. This will take some time unless you are an expert wonton wrapper, in which case… lucky you. I did this on Sunday. Ground pork Scallions (chopped) Shiitake mushrooms (chopped) Water chestnuts (minced) (I used about a half [...]

I saw this easy peasy recipe on Paula Deen’s show on Food Network (I don’t recall what her show is called), and had to try it. Well, I modified it ever so slightly, but it’s still the same basic. With only a few ingredients, seriously, how can you go wrong??? good canned salmon (I used Kirkland- CostCo brand- whatever was in the house) seasoned bread crumbs- I love 4C eggs (about one per can of salmon, although I used 2 eggs for 3 cans, and it was almost too much) dried dill (you could use fresh, but you’d need more, [...]

Myself for the obvious reasons (good Japanese food is scarce in Howard Beach, although since then another, more inexpensive place has opened up that I appreciate greatly) and he for the possibility for a good Japanese place in the area since I’d long ago denied his favorite local place as terrible. As it turns out, Frenasia is actually fusion style Japanese/Asian cuisine (hence the name), although there are also [...]

I’d heard rave after rave about how great the sushi was, how inventive the sauces, how wonderful… and it had better damn well be, since it’s a good ten minute walk from the train station, and about 45-50 minutes from my work place- in the opposite direction of home. The place was said to be small, and always a wait, even with reservations, so I sucked it up, [...]
